New York!

I’ll have a ton more to report on, but today is our friends Indian wedding… Banana Stand, New York with the in-laws, Star Trek in Times Square… Toot!!!

I gotta say, 200 something years in the future if there aren’t people of different colors, including white, in all countries, just mixed around in a hullabaloo of races and cultures, I’ll be shocked… That being said, if Benedict being Khan upsets you, consider yourself over opinionated, listen to the interviews, find out why he was selected and don’t just throw in racism because it gives you something to talk about… I’m so done with this subject now

sherlockology:

Heard the story of Simon Pegg and Chris Pine fooling Benedict Cumberbatch into wearing protective ‘neutron cream’ on the set of Star Trek Into Darkness, only to later tell him it wasn’t really needed, and wasn’t even real?
Well, Mr Pegg finally just shared the photographic proof of this little jest on his Twitter account…

thebluthcompany:

Why go to a banana stand when we can make your banana stand?
I give you Jason and Will!!

I love that I can say I’ve been a fan all along and have longed for this next coming weekend, but also got to travel to take part in such an event… Toot never-nude convention!!! Toot!!!!

Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy, in case you hadn’t heard. How dare she remove those ticking time bombs from her chest, amiright? Like, hasn’t she learned by now that her body is public domain and we all get to vote on what she does with it? Sheesh, how selfish can ya get.

Okay here’s the thing: maybe people of color were looked over, but THE ROLE WAS NOT INTENDED FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR

Holy shit he’s supposed to be a superhuman from India. He full name is literally Khan Noonien Singh. Are you a total fuckhead and should I expect you on my page every fucking day?

I’VE HEARD ASIAN AND NOW INDIAN WHO IS RIGHT
Also I’m only “stalking” you so your sexist, racist, bigoted mouth doesn’t slander my name

Indian people are South Asian, fuckwit. And I don’t know, maybe a fucking search engine.
Someone get this fool an education.

LAST I CHECK INDIA WAS NOT A PART OF ASIA DIMWIT
MAN CAN’T GOOGLE FOR SHIT
GET THIS BITCH AN EDUCATION

Lost: Pretty sure India is very much apart of Asia.

LMAOOOOOO

Are ya’ll shitting me here -.- Fucking American education system…

Please tell me that person is just a troll.

Wow lol.
Also for the record I agree with the statement that the role was not intended for “people of color”. HOW MANY NON-WHITE PEOPLE WERE THERE IN ENGLAND DURING THE 1800S I ASK YOU. DID ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE WRITE AN ASIAN AS SHERLOCK? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
You guys are idiots. The series is a remake of the old series which itself is a dramatization of a boOK SERIES. (Well no it’s one book whatever.) I’m perfectly fine with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Sherlock so screw you.
Hate me whatever I actually don’t give a shit because if you’re going to try to make everything pc when it doesn’t even fucking matter, gtfo tumblr no one likes you.

This post is about Star Trek, not Sherlock.
And, for the record there were non-white people in Europe. POC did not just magically appear in the last 50 years.

Ah I missed that, whoops. Same argument though.
And yeah, I’m aware but they were not as prominent in the population. If the character was written to be a certain way in the original, I think it should remain that way because that’s how remakes are supposed to work (except for decisions the director/writer/etc. makes for stylistic reasons i.e. updating things that people can no longer relate to, or if say it’s like a version of it in another culture or whatever). It’s not possible to be 100% politically correct all the time and have all the roles in any production be exactly representative of the population in the first place but over everything, if a character’s personality/culture/etc depends upon that person’s background (which is an argument that can be made for Sherlock at least, I should think), the casting should reflect that.
(And btw I don’t watch Star Trek though I probably should…hm.)

This post is about the whitewashing of a character that was made to be Indian. While the original actor who portrayed Khan in the 60’s was not Indian, he was still a person of color.
The fact of the matter is that it is now 2013, and there is NO lack of Indian actors, thus there is no reason for a white man to get the part.
This is something we see over, and over. Parts that are made to be POC are only given out to white actors. (Katniss from the Hunger Games, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, the entire cast of The Last Aribender, etc)
I think there is a huge importance on Hollywood to finally step up and show poc actors in their proper roles, as well as blind casting them into roles that they normally might not get.
For example, NBC is remaking an old 60’s show called Ironside. The part was originally played by Raymond Burr (a white man). The part has now been blind casted and will be played by Blair Underwood (who is black). This is a big deal. The creators of the remake could have simply said that since the original was played by a white guy this version has to follow suit, but they didn’t.
I abhor how the term “politically correct” is considered negative, bothersome, and unnecessary.
All people deserve to be properly represented. All people deserve to be seen in art (this includes Hollywood). America and Europe are extremely diverse countries, and it’s not a hindrance to properly represent that diversity in popular media.

I agree, All people deserve to be properly represented, and blind casting, much like they did in Django as well, is amazing…
what it shows is that an actor is chosen on his acting abilities, someone who fits what the director or writer wants.
As I stated in another post, Khan was NOT meant to be Indian, he was NORDIC and they changed his name and character because they fell in love with Ricardo, who, isn’t Indian or Sikh but could do that better than he could a Nord…
Same thing here, JJ wanted Benecio Del Toro, a Puerto Rican, and when that fell through he found someone he had not previously heard of and fell in love with his character. JJ Also saw an opportunity to leave the character in suspense about whether or not he would be Khan or not…
Benedict was chosen on merit alone. The same thing that should be passed onto anyone and everyone else… blind casting is amazing, but I defo feel it can go many ways with many races… it’s not wrong to choose a white actor, it’s only wrong to choose a white actor BECAUSE he is white, and this was CLEARLY not the case!

How would this conversation be shaping up if Kirk was now played by a black man?

I like Chris Pine’s strong character, so I think it would have to be someone strong like that instead of goofier like TOS Kirk… But that would be such an interesting turn and I’m curious how many others would react…

I’m enjoying people crying about “white washing” because of Benedict, when he was chosen AFTER Benecio Del Toro fell out…

Furthermore, people are losing their minds because he’s playing a character who was NORDIC until he was re-written to be INDIAN after they selected a MEXICAN actor who couldn’t play the nordic character…

I don’t think it matters… Benedict is on fire in the acting world right now and JJ has CLEARLY never come close to white washing his characters, even now after selecting his SECOND choice after his Puerto Rican choice fell out…

Pretending that every little instance of something is high crime diminishes the events when it really is of concern.
