my future marriage
I’m going to go on a little rant here, yay!
I’m not a huge fan of people thanking me for my service, I usually get uncomfortable. I appreciate that they are thanking me, but I feel like I’ve done nothing for the common American public person other than volunteer to do a job they don’t want to do. I also hate it when people talk about me fighting for their freedoms, because I never felt like our freedoms are under attack, and when people say that, I feel that they have zero understanding of the world around them.
I am an American airman, I represent America in a fight for the freedoms of the afghan people. We have torn down a government who oppressed it’s people and allowed for terrorism to grow. Now that they are gone, we are making a country who has never been unified capable of defending itself. We have given freedoms to people who never even knew about freedom. Literacy has improved 10 times over, children are free to learn, girls are free to join. When we arrived women could not leave their homes, and earlier this month, they ran for the office of Vice President. The Taliban threatened the elections, and the people came out and voted in number FAR GREATER than the American General population. They WANT their freedoms.
I don’t fight for American freedoms. Most people don’t even care to exercise their rights… I fight for the freedoms of the oppressed, not because I’m an American, not because they’re afghan or anti- Taliban, but because I as a human being am capable to leave my home and come to lend the helping hand to another human being who has been knocked down and held down. I leave here knowing that this person, these human beings are standing on their feet because of the help they have received.
They may still need to learn to walk, but I have helped another human being on this planet, and I am proud to be a human being.
